Pitchford disclosed that the development budget for "Borderlands 4" has skyrocketed to double that of its predecessor, "Borderlands 3". Although specific figures were not provided, considering that "Borderlands 3" reportedly cost around $140 million to develop as per a 2020 report by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier, "Borderlands 4" could potentially have a budget close to $300 million. This significant investment reflects Gearbox's commitment to delivering an enhanced gaming experience.

The increased cost may be attributed to various factors. With advancements in technology, creating more detailed and immersive worlds, improved graphics, and a more complex gameplay mechanics require substantial resources. Additionally, enhancing the game's storytelling, character development, and expanding the co - op features, which Gearbox has emphasized as a key aspect of "Borderlands 4", likely contributed to the ballooning budget. However, with this financial leap, the question of pricing looms large. Pitchford has stated that the final price has not been determined yet, as the studio grapples with balancing the high development costs with market competitiveness and fan expectations. As the September 12 release date approaches, all eyes are on how Gearbox will navigate these challenges and what "Borderlands 4" has in store for its eager players.
